Burney urges end to female circumcision


KARACHI: The Chairman of Ansar Burney Trust International and Pakistan’s former federal minister for human rights, Ansar Burney, has urged different communities and sects to end female genital mutilation (female circumcision)as it’s a worst kind of violation against women.

United Nations former expert adviser on human rights, Ansar Burney, requested the United Nations, Europe, UK, Arab, Middle East and United States to help the Ansar Burney Trust International in its struggle against female genital mutilation.

The Ansar Burney Trust International said: “Millions of underage girls and women worldwide are living with the consequences of FGM.”

He further said that more than 110 million girls, 7 years old & above, had undergone female genital mutilation that was a worst kind of violation of the human rights.

Burney said that even in India & Pakistan the terrifying act of female genital mutilation was practiced among selected communities. He said that the procedure was traditionally carried out by an older woman with no medical training of anaesthetics and antiseptic treatment were not used and the practice was usually carried out using basic tools such as knives, scissors, scalpels, pieces of glass and razor blades.
