Businessmen apprise AIGP of security deficiency


KARACHI: Additional Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Karachi, Ghulam Qadir Thebo, held a meeting with the industrialists at SITE Association of Industry to take stock of the law and order with regard to coordination for improving, investigating, monitoring and controlling crimes and other related law & order matters.

Chairman SITE Association of Industry Younus M Bashir while welcoming the AIGP, briefed about the prevailing security situation in SITE industrial area. He stressed the need to synergize efforts at all levels to protect the lives of innocent people.

The meeting was attended among others by Siraj Kassam Teli, Patron-in-Chief, Younus M Bashir, Chairman, Ahsan Arshad Ayub, Senior Vice Chairman, Yousuf Yaqoob, Vice Chairman, and M Jawed Bilwani of SITE Association as well as prominent industrialists Salim Parekh, Iqbal Lakhani and Tariq Yousuf.

Chairman SITE Association while addressing AIGP Karachi, presented the number of working police personnel at SITE police stations. According to him, at SITE police station A, out of total 164 policemen, only 87 are performing their duties while the remaining are posted at the security of VIPs.

He further stated that seven police mobiles and eight motorcycles of SITE police station A are also not in working condition. Similarly, at SITE police station B, out of total 174 policemen, 108 are on duty and the remaining are posted with VIPs.

There are four police mobile vans and four out of eight motorcycles are defective at SITE police station B. The chairman SITE Association also apprised him of the concerns of business community over incidents of street crime, extortion menace, illegal use of mobile Sims and non-registration of FIRs as well as shortage of police force and non-availability of modern security apparatus.

During the meeting, Siraj Kassam Teli, said that only honesty could bring revolution in a society. Thebo said that the police were all geared up for the smooth and peaceful atmosphere in and around the SITE industrial area.

“Our chief concern is to reduce the overall crime ratio. We have already put up security in strength at all the sensitive points,” the AIGP said.

He also highlighted the significance and role of community in crime combat.

Thebo also commended all police officers for their untiring efforts towards ensuring peace and tranquillity in SITE industrial area. He informed that during the current year, 80 police officials have been martyred. He said operation would continue till restoration of complete peace.
