Call to summon NA body meeting


KARACHI: Expressing concern no pre-budget meeting, convened on the forthcoming budget, the opposition members in national assembly of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Muttahida Qaumi Movemnet (MQM) have demand to call a meeting of the Standing Committee for Finance, Statistics and Privatization under Rule 225/4.

According to a statement issued from PPP Media Cell, Syed Naveed Qamar, Rashid Godil, Dr Nafisa Shah and Mohammad Ali Rashid, Nisar Khan Khattak and Makhdoom Syed Mustafa Mehmood had written to Chairman of the Standing Committee, Omar Ayub demanding to call a meeting of the Standing Committee for Finance, Statistics and Privatization as provided by Rule 225/4 of the rules of procedure and conduct of business of the national assembly.

They stated that not a single pre-budget meeting had been convened so far; however, the budget session is going to take place in two week’s time.

They expressed their dissatisfaction with the performance of the Standing Committee for Finance and its failure to play an effective oversight and monitoring role in the fiscal and economic policy, privatization process and budget-making of the country and the repeated absence of the Minister from meetings.
