Cleaning of major corridors ordered


KARACHI: Administrator Karachi Rauf Akhtar Farooqui on Saturday directed the municipal services department to immediately arrange for removal of waste and debris that had been deposited alongside roads, bridges and flyovers and on pavements.

While taking strict notice of this situation, he said the cleaning of all major city corridors was the responsibility of municipal services department; therefore, all the waste and debris must be removed without delay.

“Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) had constructed many flyovers, bridges and roads in the city to provide convenience to citizens and improving the basic city infrastructure, however, the accumulation of dust and other waste were putting adverse effect on the beauty of this infrastructure,” he said.

Farooqui instructed senior director municipal services to ensure immediate action in this connection by forming the cleaning teams and after that wash all major roads and corridors with the mechanical sweepers at least twice a week.

He also directed the director to visit the city and personally monitor the cleaning work on daily basis and take action against the concerned officers in case of any negligence or carelessness in the work.
