Closure of Gizri school opposed

Karachi: Pasban e Pakistan here Monday staged a protest demo in front of Karachi Press Club (KPC) against the conspiracy to close down the government Mariam Boys Secondary School established in Gul Hassan Lashari Memorial Complex Gizri.

Addressing the demo Pasban Karachi chapter joint secretary Salman Nawab demanded from Sindh chief minister, Sindh governor and Sindh education minister to take notice of the conspiracies to get closed down the government Mariam Boys Secondary School Gizri.

He said three years ago this school was handed over to an NGO; however, the said NGO instead of developing the school closed down the classes of ninth and tenth in the first phase, and then failed almost all students of class sixth and seventh, and gave transfer certificate to the students of the class eight, asking them to get admission in some other school.

The Pasban leader said on the one hand the government is raising slogans of an ‘educated Pakistan’ and on the other taking anti-education steps by handing over the government schools to NGOs. He said the NGOs work on the agenda of their foreign donors and they are not committed to the cause of Pakistan or its education.

He regretted that this year the government Mariam Boys Secondary School has still not started the new session. It has not provided textbooks to the students, nor sought rangers’ security for the school. Even there is no drinking water available in the school. He said all these steps are being taken to close down the school. He demanded of the government to take notice of the situation. He warned if the school was closed Pasban would further widen the scope of its protest and may besiege the concerned government departments.

On the occasion a large number of students was also present.
