Karachi: Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qasim Ali Shah on Monday said that full security would be provided to the polio workers to ensure full coverage of anti-polio campaign in Karachi and other parts of province.
This he assured to the delegation comprising organizations on the working for polio eradication from Pakistan. The chairperson Polio Eradication Oversight Committee Dr Azra Pechuho, Coordinator Begum Shahnaz Wazir Ali, Global Representative of Bill Gates Foundation for Polio Eradication Criseliyos, Project Director EPI Dr Mazhar Khamisani and others were also present on this occasion.
Shah said that Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto was the first leader who launched the anti-polio campaign to get rid of that menace. He said that it was because of that today her daughter and Dr Azra Pechuho were still continuing the struggle against polio.
He said PPP government had always given top priority to the health sector with special reference to eradicate polio menace from the society. He said that not only in Sindh province but polio eradication campaign has been intensified in whole country and efforts were being made to make the Pakistan a polio-free country by end of 2015.
While talking about polio cases, CM was of the view that influx from northern areas of the country into Karachi was the main reason. He said that these people were reluctant to get their children vaccinated but Sindh government was trying its best to achieve maximum coverage in anti-polio campaign.
