KARACHI: Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui and Administrator Karachi Rauf Akhtar Farooqui paid a detailed visit of drains located in district West and Korangi along with the officers of district administration and KMC here on Saturday.
Talking to media representatives on this occasion, they said 200 feet wide storm-water drains have shrunk to only some feet due to the presence of concrete encroachments including factories, school and hydrants on it.
Directive was issued for issuance of notice to the encroachers on district west drains and closure of hydrant. Cutting of illegal water connections from 8 inch KWSB pipeline was also begun.
The Commissioner Karachi and Administrator Karachi during this visit went to Metroville drain, SITE drain, Orangi drain, Bara Maidan drain in district West and Chakor drain, CBM drain, Falaknaz drain and other drains in district Korangi and the under construction roads.
Siddiqui expressed concern over the condition in district west and said this must be improved immediately. He said the residents of the area should form a team of youngsters and perform the cleaning of drain with the coordination of district administrator and assistant commissioner and the team should be given 10 days to complete the cleaning of drain for which these persons would be given Rs3 thousand each.
He said the municipal officers should also work as social leader so that the public welfare works could be carried out in a better manner. Administrator Karachi Rauf Akhtar Farooqui said DMCs would be provided with required machinery immediately.
