KARACHI: Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui reviewed the measures for controlling prices and arrangements of Saving Markets (Bachat Bazaar) during a visit to a Saving Market in Defence Housing Authority (DHA).
Additional Commissioner II Haji Ahmed, Bureau of Supply, market committee, traders of Sabzi Mandi and officers of administration were also present on the occasion.
The commissioner himself checked the prices on vegetable and fruit stalls, talked with people and inquired about their complaints. He resolved the issues of the customers on the spot and directed the officers to incessantly watch the prices in the batchat bazaars and other markets personally and ensure selling of commodities on the prescribed government rates in their presence.
Siddiqui said market bureau, Bureau of Supply and officers of administration should make strong efforts to control prices. “The goal of the markets should be achieved by providing commodities on cheap prices.”
He also visited a vegetable stall set up by a Sabzi Mandi trader, Abdul Rauf Tanoli, on Sabzi Mandi rates and encouraged the step. Tanoli informed him that he would set up such stalls in other Saving Markets in the city as well.
The commissioner said it was welcoming that Sabzi Mandi traders had offered setting up vegetable and fruit stalls on Sabzi Mandi prices in the markets. It was the first such vegetable stall in DHA, such stalls would be set up in other markets as well. In the second phase, fruit traders had offered establishing wholesale stalls.
He directed the additional commissioner to ensure that shopkeepers had prominently displayed price lists so that people could themselves see the government price list and the things were sold accordingly.
