Concern on arrest of fishermen

KARACHI: Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum took out a rally and held protest demonstration on Saturday outside the Karachi Press Club demanding to release fishermen jailed in the prisons of Indian and Pakistan.

The protestors were carrying placards, banners and raised the slogans for release of their fishermen.

In rally, fishermen from coastal areas of Kharo Chan, Ketti Bunder, Badin Zero Point and other areas participated.

Addressing the protestors, Chairman PFF Mohammad Ali Shah said demanded to release the fishermen arrested by India and Pakistan. He said both countries have never tried to discuss the issues of fishermen relating to their coastal areas.

He said more than 265 Pakistani fishermen were detained in Indian jails. He claimed that 485 Indian fishermen were detained in Pakistani jails.

Shah said both countries should bring this issue to priority list to find the permanent solution to the issues of fishermen’s arrest.

Other leaders said arrested fishers of both countries are languishing in jails while their families face hunger and misery.
