KARACHI: An Anti-Terrorism Court-II (ATC-II) on Tuesday remanded a suspect couple to police custody till 14th April 2014 in a extortion case.
Mohammad Ayub alias Abid and his wife Farzana alias Saba were produced before ATC-II judge under tight security. The investigation officer requested the court for more time to conduct further interrogations.
According to the prosecution, the couple had demanded Rs2000000 extortion money from one Syed Raheem on 15th March 2014, who was a trader in Ittehad Town.
The accused, Ayub and his wife Farzana were arrested during taking extortion money from a complainant Raheem in Ittehad Town on 29 March 2014.
Police claimed Rs4730 and some illegal Sims of different networks were also recovered from their possessions.
The case FIR No, (169/2014) was registered under Sections 384, 385 (putting person in fear of injury in order to commit extortion), 386 (extortion by putting a person in fear of death or grievous hurt) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code read with Section 7 of the Anti-terrorism Act (ATA) 1997 at the Ittehad police station.
