KARACHI: Dozens of workers, who were removed from a meat-exporting factories along with their supporters, staged a protest demonstration in front of the main gate of the factory in Gadap Town here on Monday and demanded reinstatement of jobs.
According to representatives of the workers, 67 employees of the private meat exporting factory and Organic Meat Company were removed by the management as they were demanding their legal rights including raise in salaries and payment of other allowances and minimum wages.
State Minister for Communication Abdul Hakeem Baloch, who is an elected representative of area, also visited the agitating workers and assured them support. Baloch assured them that their problems would be solved within two days after negotiation with the management.
The workers’ representatives Nasraullah Baloch, Zohaib Khaskheli and others complained that they are forced to work for over 12 hours instead of eight hours and they are not provided other facilities. They said in case, a worker demands the legal rights, he or she is removed. Over 250 workers, mostly from the villages of backward villages of Gadap town, are presently working in the factory.
They said the company is earning profits by exporting its products of meat but its management is reluctant to pay dues to workers.
