Democracy result of ‘reconciliation’ policy: Khuhro


KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Information and Irrigation Nisar Ahmed Khuhro has said that being a democratic party the PPP wanted to strengthen the democratic system in the country and still in struggle for this goal.

He was addressing a chief guest at a reception hosted by an Editor of Urdu Monthly magazine Durdana Shahab at a local club. Khuhro said that that the PPP government not only completed its five years term but also transferred the powers to elected government in a peaceful manner and this credit goes to PPP and its leadership.

The Minister said that continuation of the democratic system in the country was the result of the policy of reconciliation introduced by the party leadership and promoted the culture of tolerance in the country.

Nisar Khuhro said that in previous all democratic governments could not complete its term as the dictators derailed the process. He said the dictators and their undemocratic collaborators always planned to damage the PPP but the party was survived with the support of the masses. He said the PPP wanted to strengthen the democratic system and was ready for sacrifices.

He said the formation of two political alliances MRD and ARD was the result of the struggle of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto and now the party following the thoughts of the its late leader and serving the masses.

He said the party also believed in freedom of press and freedom of expression and struggled with the journalist community for the freedom of press. He said the party still in support to the journalist community in their struggle. He said the portfolio of information is a challenge for him but always accepted the challenges and straggle for the betterment.

Others who spoke on the occasion were two former secretaries of the APNS Qazi Asad Abid and Ilyas Shakir, prominent businessmen Mian Zahid, former president Karachi Press Club Tahir Hasan Khan, Actor Sajid Hasan, editor Express Karachi Tahir Najmi, Editor Ummat Sajjad Abbasi, GM Jamali and Najia Ashaar. The secretary Information Dr Zulfiqar Ali Shalwani and Director Information Yousif Kabooro were also present on the occasion.
