KARACHI: The Anti-encroachments Task Force had to encounter a severe resistance on Thursday in an operation against reestablishment of encroachments in Saddar as some miscreants attacked and opened fire on them, though no casualties were reported.
Administrator Karachi Rauf Akhtar Farooqui condemned the attack and firing on the anti-encroachments staff and other officials during the action for removal of encroachments which were established again in Saddar.
He pledged to continue action against the illegal acts and the evil designs of land mafia and directed Senior Director and Chairman Anti-encroachments Task Force Bilal Manzar to carry on the present campaign against encroachments in the city as it was in the larger interest of the city. He also directed them to form a special monitoring team which would inspect the areas in Saddar, where encroachments were removed previously, and take action on daily basis.
Farooqui said more action was being taken to improve the traffic flow and end the traffic congestion on roads in main Saddar and adjoining areas.
Meanwhile, the anti-encroachments squad of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation had earlier taken action in Saddar area and removed the encroachments including dozens of pushcarts, cabins and patharas, which were again established alongside Saddar roads.
