Eight cops jailed in kidnapping case


Karachi: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Monday remanded eight policemen to jail custody till 12th May 2015 for their alleged involvement in a kidnapping for ransom case.

Today, Investigation officer submitted a report under 497-B CrPc, requesting the court to release one accused cop Kamil Maseeh of the eight accused as no evidence could be found against him. The lawyers from complainant side Mohammad Khan Buriro and Mubashir Ahmed Mirza however opposed the report. They argued that all the suspects were arrested red handed, abducted person identified all the accused and they all were nominated in FIR.

The ATC judge rejected police request for release of accused Kamil Maseeh and remanded him to jail custody along with other seven accused till 12th May and directed police to submit a challan during next hearing.

According to the prosecution, all the accused were involved in kidnapping complainant Rao Inamullah and demanding ransom of Rs2, 000,000 for his safe release. The special unit of Pakistan rangers arrested the accused red handed when they reached to collect ransom amount and handed over them to the relevant police station.

There is a charge of kinapping for ransom against Assistant Sub Inspector Faisal Jaffery and Mohammad Arif, and Constables Jalal Haider, Imran, Mohammad Ashfaq, Mohammad Jahangir, Syed Ali and Kamil Maseeh.
