Emergency plan reviewed to counter flood, rain

KARACHI: A meeting under chairmanship of Commissioner Karachi and senior member of Sindh Board of Revenue Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui on Monday reviewed emergency plans of all the districts of Sindh to counter floods and expected monsoon rains.

Commissioner Hyderabad, all the deputy commissioners of Karachi, officers of provincial disaster management authority were also present on the occasion, while commissioners of all the districts, deputy commissioners, Secretary Rehabilitation Saeed Awan, officers of department of irrigation, department of livestock and other relevant departments participated in the meeting through video conference.

Commissioner Karachi directed all the commissioners to strengthen the embankments in cooperation with the irrigation department and ensure arrangements of their monitoring. All the commissioners and deputy commissioners should get certificates of maintaining and making the embankments strong.

He said Sindh chief minister had directed to take fool-proof measures to counter any untoward situation to safeguard people. He directed provincial disaster authority to make available resources according to the emergency plans in all the districts and cities.

Additional relief commissioner was appointed to be coordinator so that he could contact provincial disaster authority to check all the necessary machinery, tools and other things and to coordinate to provide the resources to all the districts.
