KARACHI: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh Ghulam Hiader Jamali presided over a high level meeting on instruction of Sindh Home Minister Sohail Anwar Siyal for resolving the traffic-related issues and streamline the traffic department.
Additional IG Traffic Khadim Hussain Bhatti, DIG Traffic Dr Ameer Shaikh, DIG Driving License Branch Dr Aftab Pathan, DIG Headquarters Sindh Abdul Aleem Jafri, AIG Operations Sindh and other senior police officers were present.
Additional IG Traffic said that after the instructions of Home Minister, a new strategy is being formed for opening more driving license branches. He said in the first phase four license braches will be opened on different locations including Traffic Training Institute, Crime Branch Building, Police Training Center Saeedabad and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Elite Training Center Razaqabad.
He said in view of problems faced by the citizens for getting of learning driving license 12 locations have been selected for ensuring the smooth provision of driving licenses.
The officials briefed IG Sindh about traffic system. DIG Traffic told the meeting that about 3.8million vehicles move in Karachi. However the about 903 private vehicles are adding to them in the city per day. He said due to encroachments, un-availability of parking lots and not fully function of Saddar car parking plaza, the flow of traffic is affected. He said for resolving these issues, traffic police along with other stakeholders is taking proper steps.
Sindh Police spokesperson said that action would be taken according to rule and regulations if anyone found not in possession of driving license while driving a vehicle in the city.
