Flood affectees hold demo against displacement

KARACHI: Flood affectees of 2010, who have been temporary accommodated in flats of labors at Gulshan-e-Mayamar, Karachi held a protest demonstration outside the Karachi Press Club Saturday against vacating of the flats and condemned the remarks of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rao Anwar calling them criminals.

The protestors, carrying placards and banners, raised slogans against negligence of Sindh government.

Addressing the protestors, Flood Affectees Welfare Committee (FEWC) President Rais Jan Mohammad, Vice President Saleem Khan, General Secy, Rehmatullah Channa said that they belong to district Jacobabad and it outskirts and they migrated to Karachi due the flood of 2010 which had damaged their homes and crops. They said PPP government had assured them regarding their rehabilitation but after passing of five years, no such step has been taken as yet.

They said now they are being called land grabbers by those persons who helped them to settle in Karachi. They said now they are being threatened to go to their native places.

The protestors appealed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for taking stance to resolve their issue soon.

It may be recalled that the apex court had ordered to get vacated the occupied flats of labors at Gulshan-e-Mayamar and hand them to their legal allottees.
