KARACHI: Four children died in incubators in National Institute of Child Health (NICH) due to prolonged power failure that caused shortage of oxygen, say media reports; however, hospital administration said only one baby died who was brought to the hospital a few days ago in critical condition.
According to the hospital sources, power supply of the general ward went suspended due to some internal faults Saturday afternoon which was later restored. However, media reported that four babies died to shortage oxygen in incubators and ventilators.
Director, NICH, Prof Jamal Raza while talking to media said only a baby girl died in the hospital who was admitted on 16th November in critical condition. He said power outage was not linked to this death.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah and Health Minister Jam Mehtab Dahar took a stern notice of the incident of death of four babies in NICH. They also directed the secretary health to conduct inquiry and submit report to them. They said strict action would be taken against officials if found negligent.
