KARACHI: Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui on Wednesday underlined the need for garbage recycling in a proper manner so that it could create employment opportunities.
While presiding over a high profile meeting to review the solid waste management in his office here, Siddiqui said that proper utilization of garbage was being done in the largest interest of citizens and city.
He said that garbage was utilized with proper technology and it would give clean environment to the city and citizens could lead healthy life.
Commissioner also expressed concern over the burning of garbage in the city and directed the authorities not to allow anyone to burn garbage. Section 144 is also imposed in the city and those violating should be penalized, he added.
Siddiqui said that recommendations of this meeting should be taken as challenge and citizen’s health should be given top priority.
The Managing Director Solid Waste Management Roshan Ali Shaikh informed the Commissioner that 150 acres of land has been acquired for garbage collection and its proper utilization.
He stressed that risk cannot be taken with the lives of citizens as the healthy atmosphere for the city is needed. Shaikh said that NGOs will be asked to monitor their performance doing work in solid waste and government would assist them at every level.
The programmer manager UNDP gave various suggestions to utilize the garbage under latest technology.
