KARACHI: A policeman and a court employee suffered injuries when a hand grenade exploded in a room of the Anti-Terrorism Court, here on Monday.
The incident took place in Anti-Terrorism Court No III, situated in Clifton area, where a hand grenade recovered from an accused was brought in during hearing of the case. Two persons including ATC’s clerk and a policeman were injured in the incident. They were identified as Liaquat, aged 42, son of Ishaq, and Shoaib, 26, son of Dildar, as per rescue sources.
They were immediately rushed to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical hospital for treatment. However, the grenade had not been defused before bringing it to the court, sources said. After the blast, all activities in the court premises were suspended.
Sindh Home Minister Sohail Anwar Sial instructed Karachi Police’s Additional IG to conduct an inquiry and take strict action against officials involved in the negligence. Additional IG Karachi Mushtaq Maher ordered a probe into the matter and directed to take action against the negligent police officer.
