Handing over ceremony of 12-ton BP Tug


Karachi: Handing over ceremony of 12 Tons BP Tug built for Pakistan Navy was held at Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works Ltd on 7th Nov. 2014.

Vice Admiral Khan Hasham Bin Saddique HI(M) Chief of Staff, graced the occasion as Chief Guest. The ceremony was attended by Chairman PQA, high ranking officials / dignitaries from Pakistan Navy, Government Authorities, Corporate Sector and KS&EW.

This state of the art tug is propelled by 02 Caterpillar Diesel Engines & twin shafts. It is fitted with 02 x Diesel Generators and other equipment like navigational radar, EM log, Echo Sounder, Hydraulic Crane, Gyrocompass etc. Modified Push Bow and fenders are specially designed for safe handling of the submarines.

MD KS&EW Rear Admiral Syed Hasan Nasir Shah SI(M) in his welcome address highlighted that this is 20th tug constructed by KS&EW and 6th in last 03 years. He said that KS&EW is entrusted with construction of 05 PN vessels including 17,000 Tons fleet tanker, Fast Attack Crafts (Missile) and 02 x Landing Crafts.

He thanked Ministry of Defence Production and especially PN for their continued patronage and support and assured that all projects will be delivered on time with best quality. He further added that KS&EW will Inshallah soon start construction of 4 LNG tugs for PQA and 4 hopper barges for KPT along with other heavy engineering projects.

On the occasion, Vice Admiral Khan Hasham appreciated KS&EW efforts on culmination of yet another project for PN with the performance which is much more than the intended specifications as observed during its test & trials.

He said that in pursuance of Government policy of indigenization and self reliance, PN has always stood behind KS&EW to make rapid progress towards indigenization. In this regard NHQ has formulated a plan for phased replacement of its ships and submarines through indigenous construction facilities of KSEW.

He further said that this approach will not only ensure timely availability of required vessels for PN but also expose KS&EW to latest trends on technologies. He re-assured that PN will always support to make this strategic setup a more viable and progressive unit of the maritime sector. As regard projects from other maritime sector organizations, he showed his full confidence that a contract for construction of 70 tons LNG tugs will be signed soon.
