KARACHI: Habib, MA Jinnah and NED universities’ teams secured first, second and third positions while the students of Habib University snatched all top three positions in individuals competition of first MAJU Inter University Mathematics Olympiad-2015 held at Mohammad Ali Jinnah University, Karachi campus.
In all, 50 students of 11 universities participated in Olympiad in which 18 teams took part in competition while in second round 40 students were declared eligible for individual contest. Chairperson, Mathematics Association of Pakistan, Abid Sohail was chief guest on this occasion. Rabia Saleem, Amir Shiraz Gilani and Noorullah Farid of Habib University respectively obtained first, second and third positions in this competition who were awarded shields besides return air ticket of Karachi-Dubai-Karachi to first position student by Marfani Travels, and gift hampers to second and third position students by Cool & Cool. The program was organized by Computer Science Department, MAJU under the supervision of faculty members Ateeque Razak, Dr. Ahmad Ali Shah and Dr. Arif Hussain.
It is mentioned that Mathematics is understood a difficult subject and students normally avoid to choose it as optional subject. In order to create interest among students for the study of Mathematics, Olympiad programs are arranged in over one hundred countries annually to attract them. Moreover, International Mathematics Olympiad Association also organizes such competition programs every year globally.
