Ice dealers threaten strike against FCS

KARACHI: Ice Dealers Association for Fisheries held a protest demonstration outside Karachi Press Club on Thursday against the Fishermen Cooperative Society (FCS) for demanding Rs 10 per ice block.

The protesters, carrying banners and placards, were chanting slogans against Director FCS Shah Nawaz Khan. They were demanding action against the director for tormenting them.

Later, addressing a press conference at KPC, President Dealers Association for Fisheries Mohammad Nisar said that FCS had been demanding extortion from their dealers at Karachi Fish Harbor.

Nisar said 90 registered dealers are earning their bread and butter at fish harbor. “We provide 10,000 to 12,000 ice blocks on daily basis at harbor. FSC was illegally demanding Rs 10 per ice block, which is great injustice,” he said.

He said at harbor, millions of rupees of fish is sold out on daily basis and there is only one way to protect the fish which is freezing it.

“If dealers go on a strike, then fisherman will face huge losses”, Nisar said

Nisar urged federal and provincial governments to resolve their issues, otherwise they would go on strike from 01 April 2014.
