’IDC working to develop joint education programs’


KARACHI: Dr. Tariq Ikram, President Italian Development Committee (IDC) hosted a breakfast in honor of Adriano Chiodi Cianfarani, Ambassador of the Italy in Islamabad, at the IDC’s House in Zamzama which was attended by Giulio Iazeolla – Vice Consul, Italian Consulate in Karachi.

Ikram welcomed Cianfarani to the new IDC office and informed that the new IDC office is well equipped to host and organize various cultural activities at its premises such as Italian language classes, Italian movie nights and Italian cooking classes etc.

The aim of the business breakfast was to discuss the road map of IDC with the Ambassador. It was agreed upon that the road to increased bilateral trade and investment between Italy and Pakistan is through cultural exchanges between the two countries.

The IDC members were of the view that IDC’s activities and its presence can flourish with the support of the Italian Embassy in Islamabad and the Italian Consulate in Karachi. The Ambassador, Cianfarani assured the Embassy’s maximum support to IDC in achieving its objectives.

The Secretary General, Ms. Amnah Gul Muqri, informed the Ambassador that IDC is also working to develop joint programs between educational institutions of the two countries that can result in joint scientific, academic, economic and cultural exchanges through student and faculty exchange programs, joint research papers etc.

Cianfarani informed that many Italian companies are eager to invest in Pakistan and the Embassy together with IDC would like Italian businessmen and companies to visit Pakistan frequently. The meeting was concluded and followed by a scrumptious breakfast served by an Italian Café -Pane e Amore.

Asim Murtaza Khan of PPL, Abdul Sattar of Sattar & Sattar Legal Counsels, Hasan Askari of CESCO, Syed Amir Hussain of BST Services, Aamir Butt of Scanwell Logistics, Asim Siddiqui of Ernest & Young, Mehboob ul Haq – CEO of Sindh Enterprise Development Fund also attended the meeting.
