IG asks to use all resources for educating drivers

KARACHI: The Inspector General of Police Sindh Iqbal Mehmood has issued directives to DIGP Traffic Karachi to ensure mobilization of all possible resources and to adopt a pragmatic approach for community during the current continuing special Traffic Rules Awareness/ Educational drive.

He issued directives while reviewing a report in this regard submitted by the Karachi Traffic Police. Traffic police is observing a “Traffic Awareness/ Educational Week” throughout the city from April 21 to April 27, 2014. The aims and objectives of the very campaign are to motivate road users to follow traffic rules & regulations.

The traffic police would arrange a walk for a cause during the drive besides establishing Mobile Theatre and camps equipped with public address system, pamphlets, guidance booklets etc. The campaign is aimed at extending responsiveness among the road users about the cost of the serious traffic violations which directly leads to fatal accidents.

The citizens would also be guided to make use of the services of Sindh Police FM Radio Channel – 88.6 and short messaging service (SMS-8655) recently initiated for the assistance of general public. The report submitted to IGP Sindh further revealed that special Traffic Teams have been formed to conduct seminars and deliver lectures at school levels. Gift hampers such as colour boxes, pencil boxes, badges etc would also be given to the school children after putting some questions about traffic rules and regulations. Arrangements have also been completed to visit Public Service Bus terminals to make the drivers and conductors aware about traffic rules.

Mehmood while appreciating the initiatives, further directed to make good arrangements for publicizing the aims and objectives of the current traffic rules awareness campaign so as to achieve maximum results out of it. He asked the Zonal Traffic SSPs to personally supervise the progress of ongoing drive on daily basis.
