Illegal construction: SHC summons CCB chief to explain disciplinary action against negligent staff


KARACHI: The Sindh High Court has summoned the Clifton Cantonment Board’s (CCB) top officer to explain action against his subordinates for failing to take action against an unauthorized multi-storied building in Punjab Colony.

A division bench, headed by Justice Hassan Azhar Rizvi, has asked the executive officer of the CCB to turn up in court along with relevant record, including names of the officers, who are responsible for not taking timely action against the illegal construction.

The petitioner, a resident of Punjab Colony had moved the court seeking action against the illegal construction. The petitioner had submitted that an eight-storey building, consisting 16 flats, was constructed on a plot, C-73/3 in Punjab Colony without an approval of the CCB.

The woman petitioner said that she had complained to the authorities but to no avail. Therefore, she pleaded to the court to issue directives for the authorities concerned to raze illegal structures and take action officers responsible for allowing illegal construction.

Earlier, the court had directed the CCB to pull down illegal structure and take action against those found responsible for allowing the construction.
