KARACHI: “Indonesian Agricultural Quarantine Agency (IAQA) has declared HEJ, Research Institute of Chemistry, University of Karachi (UoK) standard laboratory for pesticide residue testing of food ingredients.
After having a substantial research in Pakistan, IAQA has taken this decision to comply with Indonesian import regulations. The Industrial Analytical Center (IAC), offering unique service in Pakistan, works under HEJ Research Institute of Chemistry, International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), University of Karachi.
Director ICCBS-UoK Prof Dr Mohammad Iqbal Choudhary stated this while speaking at a meeting held at the International Center. He said that IAC was equipped with world class facilities of research in emerging areas of chemistry and biology.
IAQA aims to protect natural resources from invasion of animal and pest, and support implementation of food safety inspection, he said, adding that the Industrial Analytical Center owns authority to issue certificate of analysis.
“The IAC offers unique service in Pakistan to analyze the non-Halal ingredients in foods, cosmetics, and pharmaceutical products. Scientists and analysts at the IAC ensure that they are free from chemical, biological or artificial additives which do not comply with Islamic law. In view of the current trend of applied research in food science and in trade, ICCBS has established a Halal Testing Laboratory in its Industrial Analytical Center (an ISO 9000-2001 and 17025 facilities). He added that the objective of the establishment of this laboratory was to provide the industry and the government a platform to assist in fulfilling the role of an authentic Halal testing laboratory.
Following the need of this service, we offer our analytical services to both private and public institutions on reasonable rates for testing and analysis of their products for non-halal ingredients in the Halal Testing Lab, he said.
