KARACHI: Police officer investigating alleged extrajudicial killing of Noman Talib, an activist of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), on Tuesday informed Sindh High Court (SHC) that he had recorded the statement of Noman’s widow and eyewitnesses.
A division bench headed by Chief Justice Maqbool Baqar was seized with the hearing of a petition filed by Samreen Jehan, who moved the court calling for judicial inquiry into killing of her spouse and payment of compensation to her.
Gulab Channa, investigation officer informed the court that he had recorded the statement of Samreen, and eyewitness in pursuance of the court order.
The bodies of three MQM activists, Noman, Javed alias Bunda and Saleem, were found on the Superhighway on December 23, 2013.
The petitioner submitted that her spouse Noman, who was also an employee of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), was taken into custody by police and Rangers in the last week of December and later his body was found.
The Rangers filed their comments and denied the arrest or detention of the petitioner’s spouse.
Hearing of case was adjourned till May 13.
