Karachi: Lahore Customs and PIA recorded similar triumphs on penalty strokes against their semi-final opponents and advanced into the final of 1st P.T. Yaqoob Memorial Hockey Tournament at Government College Gojra in Gojra on Thursday.
Lahore Customs prevailed against its semi-final opponent WAPDA in penalty strokes by 5-4 score, after the match’s regulation time ended in a 1-1 draw.
Mohammad Asif gave 1-0 lead to Lahore Customs before Rana Umair produced an equalizer for WAPDA in regulation time.
After 4-4 draw in penalty strokes Ali Shan took his second successful stroke in sudden death to seal victory for his team. Bilal Qadir, Mohmamad Asad and Sultan Ashraf also successfully took penalty strokes for Lahore Customs.
WAPDA’s Mohammad Shahbaz, Mohsin Bilal, Mohammad Ejaz and Zubair Riaz were successful strikers.
Meanwhile, PIA overpowered by 4-2 score in penalty strokes after regulation time ended in a 2-2 draw. Mohammad Zubair and Kashif Ali, who went on to take a successful penalty stroke later, scored one goal each in regulation time for PIA. Shafqat Rasool, Mohammad Irfan and Inyatullah scored in penalty strokes for the side.
Saleem Khalid and Mohammad Arslan scored one goal apiece for SSGC in regulation time. Mohammad Tofeeq and Mohammad Zeeshan were the two successful penalty stroke takers for SSGC.
Lahore Customs and PIA will clash in the tournament climax on Friday (today) at the same venue of Government College Gojra.
