Karachi: Top Egyptian squash players and their Pakistani counterparts will be seen in action as The Legends Vs Champions Squash Series commences today (Tuesday) here in Karachi.
Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) terms the event as a milestone on the road to the re-launch of a sport that gave the country glory and unprecedented success for more than four decades.
Pakistan has literally ruled the world of squash and the names of Hashim Khan, Jahangir Khan and Jansher Khan etc will always be remembered. However, the place Pakistan players held in squash in the past has almost been replicated by their Egyptian counterparts in this era.
The series would be a celebration of the past with an eye on the future as the PSF join hand with top class sports management professional who have already raised the bar for the industry in the country by the incredible success of the opening edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
PSF has already announced that the record ten times British Open champion Jahangir Khan along with the other squash legends is endorsing this event in the country.
“It is a real pleasure to be a part of the event especially with the federation that has the vision and will to make a difference. I firmly believe that we still have talent in the country. It is all about giving youngster an opportunity,” Jahangir said.
Five-member Egyptian squash team having three top ten ranked players including the World Number 4 will participate in the event.
The Egyptian squad includes world number 4 Omar Mossad, world number six Tariq Momen, World number 7 Karim Abdul Gawad, world number 17 Mazen Hasham and world number 14 Ali Farag.
Pakistani number 1 women player Maria Toor will play an exhibition match during the series. Country’s top ten male players will feature in the series.
