KARACHI: Mohammad Ali Jinnah University (MAJU), Karachi have planned to introduce BS Accounting and Finance and MS Economics and Finance degree programs from next semester Fall-2016. This was decided at a meeting of Board of Studies of Finance and Economics Department, MAJU, which was presided over by MAJU President, Prof Dr Zubair Sheikh at the university.
Those who attended the meeting include Khurram Iqbal, ACCA representative, Prof Dr Iqbal Panhwar, former PVC, Sindh University Jamshoro, Dr Shafiqur Rehman, Chairman, Finance and Economics Department, MAJU and faculty members. Prof Dr Zubair Shaikh said at the meeting that the new programs were designed for students who wish to acquire career-oriented, and market- driven education that would lead them to rewarding careers.
He said that the programs will provide an opportunity to acquire advance knowledge and skills in finance and accounting. He said that the graduates can also pursue further education in any of the programs like MBA, ICMA, CA, Management Accountancy, Internal Audit, Public Finance etc. He emphasized that MA Jinnah University is distinctive amongst traditional universities and business schools incorporating professional placement because of comprehensive collaboration with different local and International Accounting and Financial bodies.
Earlier at start of meeting, Chairman Finance and Economics department Dr Shafiqur Rehman while briefing the members Board of Studies said that the objective to launch new education program was to develop Accounting and Finance professionals with world class competencies and ethical standards. He said that another objective of this program was to provide opportunities for young professionals to acquire not only undergraduate academic degree but professional certification in Accounting and Finance under this program.
