Man jailed for 10-years in extortion case

KARACHI: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) awarded 10-year collective imprisonment with fine of Rs 70,000 to accused Atif in money extortion and illicit weapons possession case.

ATC judge pronounced the verdict after recording evidence, statement of witnesses, and hearing arguments from both sides. The accused was found guilty of demanding extortion of Rs 500,000 from the complainant Abdlu Qadir on 9 March 2013 and hurling threats of killing his son in case of non-payment.

The court also imposed a collective fine of RS 70,000 on the convict and said that the convict will have to undergo an additional one-year imprisonment if he fails to pay the fine.

The ATC judge awarded five-year imprisonment and fine of Rs 50,000 in extortion case, five-year other imprisonment and fine of Rs 20,000 in illegal weapons possession case. Both the convictions would undergo simultaneously.
