Man jailed for five years in extortion case


KARACHI: Anti-Terrorism Court-V (ATC-V) on Wednesday awarded sentence of five years imprisonment to an extortionist. The court found Naimatullah guilty of demanding ‘protection money’ from complainant Gul Wali Khan, who was a transporter, on 28th July 2013 within the remit of the Docks police station.

ATC-V, pronounced the verdict after recording evidence of witnesses and hearing arguments from both sides.

The judge of the ATC-V also imposed fine of Rs50000 and in case of default the convict would have to undergo an additional six-month imprisonment.

According to the prosecution, the accused had demanded Rs100,000 as protection money from Wali and extended him threats of killing, if the payment was not made.

A case FIR (279/2013) was lodged under Sections 384, 385 (putting a person in fear of injury in order to commit extortion), and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code read with Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act at the Docs police station.
