Many arrested during anti-encroachment drive


KARACHI: The law enforcement agencies arrested more than 10 people of an armed group during an anti-encroachment operation by Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) squad on both sides of Quaidabad roundabout on Thursday.

The miscreants resisted and opened fire on the anti-encroachment squad but the law enforcement agencies took action and controlled the situation. The anti-encroachment task force of KMC led by its chairman Bilal Manzar took action in Quaidabad and removed hundreds of cabins, hotels, concrete and semi concrete shops, Patharas and other such structures.

Administrator Karachi Rauf Akhtar Farooqui said that ongoing operation would continue against encroachments without accepting any external pressure. He said that many roundabouts and roads of the city were affected because of encroachments and it had troubled the smooth flow of traffic. Therefore, the anti-encroachment drive would be extended to other areas of the city to provide relief to citizens.

Meanwhile, the anti encroachments taskforce of KMC also took action in Malir, Bahadurabad and Haideri Market and removed more than 400 cabins, roadside hotels, thellas, shops and illegal bus stops.

The operation was performed under heavy security arrangements and therefore no resistance was seen in these areas.

Chairman anti-encroachment task force Bilal Manzar and Director anti-encroachment Mazhar Khan supervised the above action.
