MD KWSB blames engineers, staff for water crisis

KARACHI: Managing Director Karachi Water & Sewerage Board Hashim Raza Zaidi (KWSB) held executive engineers and staff responsible of all the disorders and defects for current water crisis.

He said the faults were occurring due to lack of responsibility, negligence and inattention of field officers and staff, who should find a solution to provide uninterrupted water supply to the citizens by its justified distribution.

MD KWSB warned that if any executive engineer did not make sure justified water distribution in his area then strict action would be taken against him.

“All the officers should feel their professional responsibilities and make foolproof and effective water distribution system with honesty. They should regularly visit the areas where water was scarce and resolve issues and remain in area for supervision of valve operation,” he said while addressing a meeting about eradicating irresponsibility, corruption, mismanagement and unsatisfactory performance in KWSB.

“GIS maps should be used to monitor valve operation so that no area could face shortage of water. In case, law and order situation gets bad anywhere due to shortage of water then executive engineers and field staff will be responsible,” he said.

He said a schedule should be prepared and it should be made public so that the residents could know when they would get water. He also appealed from the citizens not to interfere in valve operation and do not damage any machinery as KWSB was already fund restraint.

“Unnecessary intervention of any influential person will not be tolerated in provision of water. Such person should be identified and KWSB should strengthen coordination with Sindh rangers for their protection. KWSB will always have cooperation of commissioner Karachi and law enforcement agencies,” he said.
