KARACHI: Business community of Karachi on Thursday once again strongly demanded of the government to take stern actions for deactivation of all illegal pre-paid mobile phone SIMs as according to it, these SIMs are being used in 80% crimes in the city.
Addressing a press conference at Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), Chairman Businessmen Group (BMG) and former president KCCI Siraj Qasim Teli said that mobiles phone companies and some elements in Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTI) were sabotaging Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s efforts for restoring peace in Karachi.
“All efforts being made by Prime Minister for peace are being sabotaged as he was being misinformed by mobile phone companies and their accomplices in corruption.”
He said that the only solution to the problems was to deactivate all pre-paid SIMs for three days and reissue the same to the holders at their postal addresses as per CNIC through courier services. “It will surely get rid of all those SIMs which were illegally issued and this process can be done only in three days as the mobile companies are fully computerized,” he added.
He said that the alternate solutions being provided by the mobile companies were not perfect and were kind of delaying tactics while people were suffering and dying. “We simply do not understand whether lives are more important or the profit of mobile companies,” he said.
He said that those mobile companies and certain elements in PTA were responsible for loss of precious lives in the city. He asked Prime Minister to strictly order mobile companies to follow that solution.
President KCCI Amir Abdullah Zaki, Zubair Motiwala, others office-bearers of KCCI and a large number of businessmen were also present.
