KARACHI: Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui and Administrator Karachi Rauf Akhtar Farooqui on Tuesday said that a joint campaign for removal of encroachments from storm water drains in the city was started to make situation better before monsoon.
Legal action would be taken against the violators of municipal laws including land grabbers and persons involved in dumping garbage in drains. The relevant district municipal commissioners would be sacked if garbage was dumped in their respective districts, they said.
The commissioner and administrator with the Deputy Commissioner Central Dr Saif-ur-Rehman and Karachi Metropolitan Corporation and district municipal officers also paid a visit to different areas of district Central including Piyala Hotel, KBR, Shafiq Morr, Moosa Colony, Liaquatabad, Shahra-e-Noorjehan, North Karachi, North Nazimabad and New Karachi.
They expressed annoyance over encroachments near Piyala Hotel, KBR and Shafiq Morr and directed to demolish the encroachments, including a three-stored building, near Piyala Hotel so that the flow of the drain could be maintained. They said no commercial activity should be allowed at the banks of drains.
On the visit to Sharah-e-Noorjehan, Farooqui directed director general technical services to immediately start remaining construction work of the road and complete it as soon as possible.
Moreover, milk sellers were also fined for overcharging in New Karachi during the visit and the assistant commissioners were instructed to take strict action against profiteers.
Siddiqui on this occasion said that on the directive of Sindh government they were visiting the different areas of city so that the city’s civic conditions could be improved before the monsoon rains.
