MQM leader Thanvi elected senator

KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader and President Muttahida Bain-ul-Muslimeen Forum Maulana Tanveerul Haq Thanvi was on Wednesday elected unopposed as a senator on the seat vacated by former Karachi Mayor Syed Mustafa Kamal.

Kamal had resigned from the Senate on April 21, citing personal reasons. He had distanced himself from MQM after he left the country in August 2013. Kamal took oath as a senator in March 2012, and his term was due to end in March 2018.

MQM chief Altaf Hussain felicitated Maulana Thanvi for being elected unopposed on the Senate seat and said that Thanvi is a renowned religious personality who served MQM through his teachings.

He asked the newly elected senator to courageously represent MQM and serve the nation in the assembly.
