Need stressed to promote social sciences

Karachi: Social Sciences research has not been much promoted as compared to natural sciences and it is one of the reasons why we have failed to deal with increasing social problems in Pakistan, said Dr Ishrat Hussain, speaking at two-day International Conference on Management, Education and social Science Research in the perspective of emerging nations held at Arts Auditorium, University of Karachi here on Saturday.

The conference was jointly organized by Iqra University & University of Karachi, Karachi. The inaugural session was started with the recitation from Holy Quran and Prof Dr Moonis Ahmar, Dean Faculty of Social Science University of Karachi welcomed to the guests. He appreciated public-private partnership which resulted in organizing this conference. He also said Global South cannot provide better life until to improve its education system.

Keynote Speaker Prof Dr Mehfooz A. Ansari from University of Lethbridge, Canada said to run networking its need relation-shipping. He said if you want to build a good relationship with your business partner it requires leaving a positive impression. He said in this perspective always ask a question like that “how can I help you rather than asking how they can help you”.

He further said three terms work together – Know, Link and Trust – to build a lasting relationship.

Chief guest Dr Ishrat Hussain Dean & Director Institute of Business Administration, Karachi, said that Social Science research is neither much promoted at government level nor at university level as compared to research in Natural Sciences and it is the reason why our society is full of social issues. He said National Institutions should work together dealing with upcoming social and energy crises in the country.

Dr Hussain said: “To being a good professional, you should also be a good human and responsible citizen.” He said IBA teaches five to six Social Science subjects to enable their students to know their social problems. He further said due to non-availability of qualified social scientists our society have great challenges including different sorts of crime, killings, street crime, human trafficking, gender discrimination and instability of social system. He concluded his speech by saying this is the era of social sciences and research methodology.

Vice Chancellor of Karachi University, Prof Dr Mohammed Qaiser in his presidential address thanked to Iqra University Vice Chancellor and his team to organize this successful event of International Conference. He wished to organize together another International Conference on natural, social and management sciences.

Vice Chancellor of Iqra University Professor Dr Capt. (retd) A.G Isani in his vote of thanked scholars who attended this moot and lauded joint efforts to make successful this event. The conference will be continued till April 5th, 2015.
