Need to boost agri-based economy of Sindh

Karachi: Livestock, dairy, fisheries, poultry seminar and exhibition (LDFA 2015) successfully portrayed immense potential of agriculture, livestock and fisheries sectors of Sindh and has now become main event for Government of Sindh & Sindh Board of Investment (SBI), said Dr. Asif Brohi Chairman SBI after awarding shields to 63 winning contestants in different categories of Horse & Cattle Show held at the expo center.

He added that through the LDFA 2015 we envisaged that Sindh’s agri economy contribution can be increased. Keeping in view global food security concerns we are committed to promote dairy sector not only for local food security but also to improve value addition and value chain.

Introduction of technology, efficient irrigation systems, hybrid seeds, quality pesticides and modern implements can help attain its true potential. Local and foreign investors have shown keen interest in this sector.

He said SBI in collaboration with Sindh government has initiated many projects while investment opportunities have been identified keeping in view indigenous crops and global best practices. LDFA is also a part of the strategy so that more investment can be lured in different sectors including fruits and vegetables processing, rice processing, clean cotton ginning, high efficiency irrigation systems, cattle farming, meat processing, dairy farming, dairy production, processing, poultry farming and meat processing, fruits and vegetables processing, freshwater fisheries processing etc.

Moreover, the Government of Sindh has taken various initiatives in terms of subsidized financing, technological support, research and development and capacity building of farmers.

Horse and Cattle competition was held on the 2nd day of the exhibition and concluded by a prize distribution ceremony. Large number of participants, visitors, government officials and around 63 local and international companies took part in LDFA 2015.
