Over 100 routine operations postponed at JPMC


KARACHI: The gas sypply of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC) has been disconnected over non-payment of Rs 30 million dues since long time, it was learned on Thursday.

Sources at JPMC said Sui Southern Gas Company’s (SSGC) team had disconnected the gas supply to healthcare due to non-payment of dues. The administration was compelled to postpone over 100 scheduled surgical operations due to this reason. They said sterilization of medical instruments and boiler also stopped functioning due to unavailability of gas. The food supply to inpatients has also been suspended in the healthcare.

The patients care in largest public sector tertiary care hospital have badly been affected that increased the miseries of patients.

Earlier, water supply to hospital remained suspend for 48 hours, which was restored Yesterday. The health department could not pay gas dues of hospital since long and SSGC teams had disconnected the gas supply to institution.

The operations in emergency and Operation Theater Department will remain suspend till restoration of supply to healthcare.

Deputy Director Admin & Focal Person Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center Dr Jawaid Jamali confirmed that gas supply to institution has been suspended for non-payment od dues. He said administration was in contact with health department officials for restoration of gas supply to the healthcare.
