Karachi: Form gained during Test series, which the team eventually won 2-0, and home-like conditions in UAE must add to Pakistan’s chances when it go head to head in four-match ODI series against better ranked England in UAE, feels former chief selector Mohsin Hasan Khan.
“Pakistan must beat England since the team has gained form in Test series. Pakistan put a brilliant performance in the series. Moreover, UAE conditions are conducive for Pakistan cricketers. So, I think these must be taken as competitive advantage against England,” Mohsin, a former Pakistan cricketer, told PPI on Monday.
Mohsin added that Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) should chose sporting pitches during the series.
Mohsin further said that Pakistan has good players in its fold and it matters little that England is a better ranked side in ODIs. Pakistan is ranked eighth while England is ranked sixth in ODI Rankings.
“I believe it depends on series to series and on match to match basis. Ranking plays little role although it may show consistency but the team, which plays better during a series and during a match, certainly wins. Ranking has little role to play. So, Pakistan need not to worry about England’s better ranking,” he stressed.
Mohsin said that the credit of impressive Test series performance goes to Misbah-ul-Haq and his players.
“They all played brilliantly in the series. Now, I wish best of luck to Azhar Ali, who is also a very good player. I hope the team that sparkled under Misbah in Tests, will take the momentum in ODIs and display the same spirit in ODIs under Azhar,” he said.
Although Mohsin declined to comment when asked whether tainted pacer Mohammad Amir should be brought back in the team, but he said that country’s respect is above everything for him.
