Parties urged to follow code of conduct

KARACHI: Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui has said that the candidates taking part in Local Government elections should follow the code of conduct issued by Election Commission (EC) and ensure the LG elections are held in peaceful and transparent manner.

He stated this while presiding over a review meeting of code of conduct for local government elections on Tuesday.

Regional Election Commissioner Sindh, Additional IGP Karachi, all deputy commissioners and district returning officers and representatives of political parties were present.

He said that to ensure peaceful and transparent LG polls in Karachi, administration is cooperating with staff of EC. He said it is mandatory for all parties and candidates that they should fully follow the code of conduct.

Siddiqui said that conducting the LG poll, is good sign which would help to stabilize democracy and resolve problems at local level.

On this occasion, he urged the political parties to strictly adopt the code of conduct while staging rallies.

It was decided in meeting that all the billboards and hoarding fixed against the rules of ECP will be removed and for this political parties will cooperate. The parties were instructed to fulfil the requirement of corner meetings and follow the instruction for using loud speaker.

In the end the party representatives assured the administration to act upon the ECP rules for making LG polls peaceful and transparent.
