Pensioners demand raise

KARACHI: Members of Pakistan Pensioners Forum (PPF) Sindh chapter have expressed the resentments over the behaviour by the government with retired employees regarding not providing them special services.

Addressing a press conference at Karachi Press Club President PPF Sindh chapter Professor (retired) Syed Tahir Ali said federal and Sindh governments had forgotten the services of their retired employees. He said in other countries pensioners are always respected and the governments take advantages of their experience.

He said the retired employees demand that ‘senior citizen cards’ should be issued to them and special discounts for them for travelling, purchasing food, paying Haj or Umrah should be introduced.

He said minimum pension should be raised by 50 percent in budget 2015-16, while medical and other allowances for them should be reformed according to the rules.

He said if the government failed to pay attention to their demands they would hold a country-wide protest.

Prof Saeed-uz-Zafar Khan, Prof Sirajuddin Qazi, Prof Ilyas Soomro, Iqbal Shuja, Ikramuddin, Qaisar Jahan and other pensioners were present.
