KARACHI: Secretary-General of Indian Journalists’ Union (IJU), Devulapalli Amar, has termed the agreement between Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) and IJU an achievement of the journalist federations of the two neighbouring countries.
Both the countries will also make efforts to pursue the formation of South Asian Federation of Journalists Unions (SAFJU). The agreement was signed between the two unions during the International Media Conference (IMC) at Karachi from May 1 to 3 that assures cooperation between the two unions for the betterment of their members.
Both will have journalist exchange programmes between the two countries in an effort to hold training sessions in each other’s country to improve their working skills and experience. Besides IFJ representatives and journalists from different countries, delegates from different unions of the country were also present.
Amar said that his dream had come true to bring journalists of Pakistan and India closer, and termed it an achievement of his life, adding that his name will remain alive for ever for uniting journalists of the two neighbouring countries.
The governments of the two neighbouring countries may have their different agendas but the people of both India and Pakistan love each other and want to have good relations. I had been thinking of the task of bringing journalists closer and managed to achieve during my visit to Pakistan to attend the International Media Conference (IMC), he added.
He maintained that he did not bother any more whether he is dead or remains alive as he had done his job and managed to record his name in the history of the two countries. The agreement between federations of the two countries will open new doors for the journalists of the two countries to the better understanding, learning, betterment and welfare respecting the ethics of the journalism even during the worse relation between the two countries.
Earlier, the accord was signed between PFUJ secretary general Mohammad Amin Yousuf and secretary-general of Indian Journalists Union Mr Devulapalli Amar which stated that cooperation between the two unions would be strengthened.
