Karachi: In an effort to bring international sports back to Pakistan, Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has written a letter to International Hockey Federation (FIH) to seek permission for holding two international events this year.
“It’s now time that international sports should comeback to Pakistan,” Secretary PHF Rana Mujahid said Friday. “We are looking to organize two international events this year and we have written to FIH to allow us to host these events,” Rana said.
He said that PHF is looking forward to start its own hockey league this year under the banner Pakistan Hockey League. “An Indian sports channel is ready to telecast this event,” said Rana.
“In the first edition of event, six to eight teams will participate. Every team will be allowed to have three foreign international players in their line-up. The matches will be organized in Lahore and Karachi,” he added.
He further said that PHF is also looking to organize International Prime Minster Gold Invitational Hockey Cup. “We will organize this event on the lines of Azlan Shah Cup,” he said.
Rana expressed hope that the FIH would allow them to host both the events.
