PMA condemns kidnapping of doctors in Balochistan

KARACHI: Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Centre on Saturday strongly condemned the kidnapping of doctors in Balochistan province.

An emergent meeting Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Centre was held at PMA House, Karachi. President PMA Centre Dr Aziz Ahmed Lehri participated in the meeting from Quetta through video link, while President Elect PMA Centre Dr M Ashraf Nizami and Dr Talha Sherwani also participated through video link from Lahore.

The meeting was also attended by Dr Mirza Ali Azhar, Dr SM Qaisar Sajjad, Dr Idrees Adhi, Dr Qazi Wasiq, Dr Naseer Baloch, Dr Ahmed Bhimani, Dr Hamid Manzoor, Dr Khalil Mukaddam, Dr Aziz Khan Tank, Dr Abdul Ghafoor Shoro, Dr Usman Ghani, Dr Najam Feroz Mehmoodi and others.

Two weeks ago, Dr Bakir Baloch and Dr Shabir Baloch were kidnapped from Makran while Dr Aslam and Dr Manoj Kumar were kidnapped form Quetta. These doctors are still missing and government has done nothing to recover them.

The incidents of kidnapping of doctors show that the government of Balochistan has failed to provide security to the doctors of Balochistan. Doctors being the soft and easy target are kidnapped for ransom, killed and at times become the victim of targeted killing. This situation is not acceptable to PMA.

PMA showed extreme concern about poor situation of law and order in the country in general and the provinces of Balochistan in particular. It seems as there is no rule of law.

PMA demanded that the culprits who are involved in the kidnapping of the doctors of Balochistan should be dealt with an iron hand. “We demanded an early and safe recovery of these kidnapped doctors and PMA also demanded from Government of Balochistan to provide security to the doctors and exemplary punishment for all the criminals involved in these crimes.”

PMA appealed to the President of Pakistan and the Chief of Army Staff to intervene immediately for safe and quick recovery of these innocent doctors. The government and authorities should act as the present situation is not acceptable and it will cause massive immigration of doctors.
