PMA demands extension of PMDC election date

KARACHI: Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Center on Wednesday urged the election committee of Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PMDC) to extend the election date as local bodies election to be held on 5th December 2015.

In an emergent meeting held at PMA House Karachi, Dr Aziz Ahmed Lehri President PMA Centre participated from Quetta through video link, Dr M Ashraf Nizami President Elect PMA Centre, Dr Talha Sherwani and Dr Bashir Ahmed Channa also participated through video link from Lahore and Larkana. The meeting was also attended by Dr Mirza Ali Azhar, Dr Qaisar Sajjad, Dr Shaukat Ali Malik, Dr Ahmed Bhimani, Dr Naseer Baloch, Dr Hamid Manzoor, Dr Khalil Mukkadam, Dr Abdul Ghafoor Shoro, Dr Usman Ghani, Dr Najum Feroz Mehmudi and other members of organization, regarding the forthcoming elections of PMDC.

This emergent meeting of PMA Centre unanimously requested the election committee of PMDC to reconsider its decision of election date on 5th of December 2015 as there are local body elections in the various districts of Punjab and Sindh.

“The meeting also unanimously resolved to urge the committee to increase the number of polling stations from 11 districts to all the districts of the Punjab and include the prestigious institution like King Edward Medical College/ Mayo Hospital, FJMC/ Ganga Ram Hospital, PGMI/ Lahore General Hospital and Shiekh Zyed Hospital Lahore (premises sub office of PMDC) in the list of the polling stations to facilitate the democratic process of elections as at least 2000 doctors are working in all the above mentioned hospitals.

Moreover to facilitate the voters of Sindh Province, the number of polling stations in interior Sindh should be increased to different districts of the province, like every district hospital should have a polling station. Karachi being a city of over 20 million people has only four polling stations. There should be at least 10 polling stations throughout the city, like Lyari Hospital, Sindh Government Korangi Hospital, Qatar Hospital, Social Security Hospital, Landhi, Sindh Government Malir Hospital.
