Karachi: Pakistan Muslim League – Quaid e Azam (PML-Q) Sindh chapter president Haleem Adil Sheikh has shown concern over the children dying in Thar, where he said the government failed to control human disaster which left over 1000 deaths due to lack of food, clean water and health, nutrition within last three years – 2013, 2014 and 2015.
Speaking at a press conference at Karachi Press Club (KPC) on Saturday, he criticized a ‘Health Nutrition Festival’ recently organized by Sindh Health Department at Mithi in Thar. He claimed the Sindh government spent Rs30 million on this three days festival but failed to even visit the other areas of Thar includes Chachro, Nagerparker Islamkot and Diplo where the worst situation of drought has been continuing and people lack even basic facilities.
He charged that ‘Health Nutrition Festival’ was the celebration of provincial government of Sindh on the death of 1000 Thari children. He said the ministers were seen in photo sessions, dance programs and earing food. He said after seeing this three days of drams the people of Thar thought that now the Chief Minster would have direct to his team to visit the real villages of Thar but regrettably he did not. He said had the provincial government was serious to provide relief to the people of Thar it could have taken serious steps instead of holding Mellas and fairs.
When he asked about performance of the federal government in this regard, he said that the federal government has also failed to facilitating people of Thar. He said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had also visited Thar in past for photo sessions. He said the National Disaster Management Authority working under the federal government has also failed to work in drought-hit Thar, like it worked in flood affected areas of Punjab.
He said 125 government dispensaries are non-functional in different areas of Thar. He said up to 100 children are still admitted in Mithi, Chachro, and Nagerparker hospitals of Thar.
He also condemned the killing of 20 laborers in Turbat, Balochistan.
