Poet Ashique Keranvi passes away


Karachi: Renowned Urdu Poet Pirzada Ashique Keranvi died today due to cardiac failure here at his residence in Gulistan e Jauhar Karachi. He was 80. Among his significant contribution made in Urdu poetry, Pirzada Ashique Keranvi produced the longest Urdu Ghazal consisting of 30 thousand verses, and this is, widely, claimed to be a record-breaking most extended poetic creation ever written in Urdu in the form of a Ghazal.

Kairanvi was the author of many books, but most of his works remained unpublished due to a severe lack of support and un-acknowledgement. Till his sad demise, Mr. Keranvi had, already, drowned in oblivion and led a quite miserable life at the very corner of the metropolitan.

Pirzada Ashique Kairanvi was a Karachi-based Urdu poet having a number of books and other publications on his credit i.e. Quaid Ke Hazoor, and Masnavi Tulo-E-Sahar.
